My daughter is allergic to food dye, and she can't eat a some brands of popsicles. We needed to make our own. I had the Lickity Sip, but had lost half the plastic "sticks". I didn't replace it with that one since I didn't want to search the yard looking for the plastic ones every time they ate outside. So, I wanted one that used wooden sticks. This is great. It makes a lot of pops at a time. You can't tell from the description or pictures, but the molds are all connected in a metal frame. Some people complained that the sticks get stuck, or popped up. I didn't have a problem with them popping up, so I don't pre-soak them. If they did pop up, I think I would put something on top to hold them down while freezing, a bag of frozen Veggies maybe. Others complained the stick holes were too small, I used a flat-head screwdriver to widen the holes a little. It worked great. Some have complained that they have to run it under water to loosen the Pops. I think thats true of any popsicle mold. I am very pleased with this product. It makes 8 Pops at a time, so I can make 4 each full size Pops for my 7-year old and 1/2 size ones for my 2-year old.

I got this at a garage sale for 5 bucks, it shaves ice okay but the handle on top that you have to turn to move the ice seems very week. It works, but I wouldn't recommend holding the little handle on top alone to turn the wheel. Not worth the price from pampered chef, I'm sure you could get something as good if not better from walmart.

Hamilton Beach 51101 Personal Blender Review

Hamilton Beach 51101 Personal Blender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The other day I impulsivley went and bought a Hamilton Beach Juicer. When I got it home I hemmed and hawed, wondering if I should use it or not. Did I really want it? I started looking around the internet and realized what I really wanted was something to make smoothies or other fruit concoctions. I researched a few things like the Magic Bullet and Ultimate Chopper but both had mixed reviews. I was tempted to buy the Tribest blender because it had some good reviews here at Amazon but I could only find it online and it's listed at $60 - much more than what I really wanted to spend.
Instead, I went to my local Walmart and to see what they had. I saw the Hamilton Beach Personal Blender and it was priced for only $13.67 so I was interested. It's just me, so I don't need a huge and heavy unit taking up what little counter space I have. I also figured since that if I bought it at Walmart and that if I didn't like it I could easily return it.
I brought it home, looked over the manual and attempted my first smoothie. I threw in milk, strawberries, frozen raspberries and hit the button. I needed to blend it some more because of the raspberries being frozen. Live and learn, I should have done those first. I put in some ice and blended it some more. It came out wonderful!
The jar itself can be used as a serving glass. I probably will only use it in that manner at home. It has no handle so I'd be afraid I'd drop it when I was out. Then the blender would be worthless because the blade is in the jar.
* Jar twists and locks into place on the base
* Comes with a travel lid to take your drink on the go
* Cord wraps around the base
* Not intended for all food - manual says not to process hard foods such as cheese, crackers or meat. A maximum of 12 tablespoons can be ground at a time. Do not try to mash potatoes, mix stiff dough, whip egg whites, grind raw meat or extract juice from fruit or veggies.
* Container cover has filler cap that can be removed to insert small objects when blending
* Can not use big chunks of ice. You need to break them down. I have an ice tray where the shape is a small circle (half ball) and it was fine. Perhaps this is what you can use those holiday themed ice trays for. Some of those sizes which I have seem I think would work in this.
* NOT dishwasher safe - but easy clean up - rinse, put water and soap in jar, blend for a minute, empty, rinse again and you're done.
* No complicated speeds or choices - one push button
* I can't find it on the box or in the manual but according to Amazon, the motor has 175 watts of power
I just went and made another smoothie! Banana, Vanilla soy milk, little bit of chocolate syrup and instant coffee. Yummy!
This one site has TONS of recipes that you can use with this blender. You just have to play with the recipes because a lot of them are meant to be multiple servings.
http://fooddownunder.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=smoothie
While this might not do what a full size blender can, this is a great blender for smoothies, drinks, shakes and to grind coffee. I love that it's small, the cord wraps around the base and I can use this thing at night and not wake up the neighbors!
I just came back from the grocery store and picked up some more fruit... what else can I make???

No need to lug out the heavy-duty blender for those morning smoothies, protein shakes, or other blended beverages. When you're trying to get out the door in a hurry, this convenient blender offers one-person portions, simple one-touch blending, and durable stainless-steel blades for fast results. Best of all, its 14-ounce blending jar doubles as a travel cup, so you can sip from the same container you blend in, which means less to clean in the end. The portable travel cup includes measuring marks up the side, and it fits most car cup holders for safe, secure transport. A travel lid to drink from and a recipe book are included. Great for at home or on the go, the 175-watt single-serve blender measures 3-3/4 by 3-3/4 by 12-1/2 inches.

Rival 8806-BL 6-Quart Oval Electric Ice Cream Maker, Blue Review

Rival 8806-BL 6-Quart Oval Electric Ice Cream Maker, Blue
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received this ice cream maker yesterday and made a batch of french vanilla ice cream. I ordered Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Dessert book at the same time I ordered the ice cream maker and they both came the same day. I used the French vanilla recipe from their book. The recipe is only for one quart so I quadrupled it. I used a lot more salt than the directions with the ice cream maker calls for to get the temperature down and also used a little table salt along with shaved ice. Use enough salt with the ice and you should have no trouble getting the temperature down. The ice cream was done when the motor stopped as per the directions. It only took 18 munutes from start to finish. The brine didn't even run out the drain hole in the can before the ice cream was done. The ice cream was pretty stiff consistency right away. We ate some for a taste test and put the whole can in the deep freeze for about an hour and the stuff set up very well. The ice cream was smooth and not gritty like it can be if it takes a long time to get done. After reading some of the reviews before buying this maker, I had some reservations about buying this particular model. I see now that they were unfounded. I had no problems with it at all. I would recommend this maker to anyone looking for a reasonably priced ice cream maker. Just be sure you use plenty of salt with the ice and be sure your ingredients are good and chilled when you put them together. By the way the recipe I used is excellent. I bought this one because it's made of Japan with high quality. It has staindless steel blade held by strong plastic instead of screws that will rust. It shaves smoothly. I wish it comes with 2 ice dishes instead of one because using ice cubes is not as easy to shave. Over all, this shaver works and looks much better than the less expensive one we had before. Somehow this color is actually $5 less than the pink one, don't know why.

The product description says, "Timer on the side of the unit marks time as to when yogurt will be finished cooking." That can be misleading; there is no automatic timer that makes a signal or shuts off when the desired cook time has been reached. Besides that, the machine is easy to use and makes really good yogurt.

Back to Basics SIT10827 Slushie Express Slushie Maker Review

Back to Basics SIT10827 Slushie Express Slushie Maker

I bought one of these a year ago. My kids used it almost every day during the summer and probably 3-5 times a week even over winter time. We purchased huge jugs of slushie syrup at our local hardware/party rent-a-center.
For the price, we definately got our money's worth, considering how much use we got out of it.
Unfortunately, the little tabs on the cups don't last forever and end up breaking off. Once those tabs are gone....the machine will not work since the tabs have to be in place (safety issue).
So my only complaint is they should make the tabs more durable and also it would be nice to have a few extra cups included w/the purchase of the machine.
If the tabs lasted longer then it would definately get 5 stars from me.

Hamilton Beach 48465 Brewstation Summit Ultra 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Hamilton Beach 48465 Brewstation Summit Ultra 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Good
Intuitive controls. Clock, timer, etc. are super-easy to figure out; we did not need the instructions to get it set up. The display is bright and can double as a nightlight. Somewhat attractive design. Makes good coffee. Also makes iced coffee if you like.
The Bad
Feels like there are too many parts to disassemble/reassemble to make coffee. The black plastic exterior has numerous dimples, seam lines, and other irregularities (poor fit & finish) that take away from the otherwise attractive appearance. Difficult to tell how much coffee is left once it drops below 2 cups.
The Ugly
Spills and messes. Lifting the lid to dump the old filter causes the built-up moisture to drip down the back of the coffeemaker. Thick mugs and thermoses are difficult to fill without coffee spilling down the side and all over the counter. In my opinion, they did not place the spout out far enough from the release bar. You can get better results if you tip your mug or thermos inward, but some of the thicker ones will never fill without making a mess.
In summary, it is a decent coffeemaker. I had read the reviews before purchasing it and had determined this was not one of the models I wanted. However, the model I had gone to the store to purchase was not available (nor was it available on amazon.com), and seeing as our old faithful coffeemaker had died that morning, I couldn't leave without something to replace it. Unfortunately, my memory was not great and I couldn't remember if this particular model was a good option or not (if I had remembered the reviews, I wouldn't have purchased this model). Despite its shortcomings, we've decided to keep it, but if I had a chance to do it again, I would not choose this one.

Oster BVCB07-Z 6-Cup Glass Jar 7-Speed Blender, Stainless Steel Review

Oster BVCB07-Z 6-Cup Glass Jar 7-Speed Blender, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I make frozen fruit smoothies every day and I needed a blender that could handle that sort of heavy duty use. I bought one of these at Costco after seriously considering both the Blendtec and The VitaMix machines. I am so glad I bought this one. It has proven to be a great blender. Every morning I toss in frozen strawberries, bananas, pineapple, blueberries, oranges, and other types of fruit. To that I add protein powder and milk, secure the top and use the automatic (this lovely machine shuts itself off) setting to make a pitcher of really great, icey cold, somewhat frozen smoothies. Some days the mixture is so thick that we have to eat the it with spoons! Once in awhile I have to stop the blender and stir the contents because a piece of frozen fruit gets stuck. But that is a rare occurrence (the reversing blades are great at keeping things moving and blending).
So why do I give this blender 4 stars instead of five? It is noisy. In my opinion it is very noisy. I can and do live with the noise because it performs so well. Well enough in fact that, I purchased a second one in case Oster decides to stop making this model.

How do they dare call this a "Milk-shake Maker"? IT'S NOT!!!
It's simply a Drink Mixer. There are many other Drink Mixers on the market that are well known quality brands. The reason I chose this product is that I expected, like any restaurant Milk-shake maker, that it would be able to break up the ice necessary for a milkshake. It doesn't. In fact, the directions warn to only use crushed ice, not ice cubes. The whole purpose of a milkshake maker is to brake down and blend ice to be used with the ingredients. Any common blender would do better at making milkshakes than this thing. This is deceptive advertising. Only buy this if you have difficulty stirring drinks with a spoon.

Breville BJE510XL Ikon 900-Watt Variable-Speed Juice Extractor Review

Breville BJE510XL Ikon 900-Watt Variable-Speed Juice Extractor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We owned a refurbished Waring JEX328 juicer for about two years and my wife used it to make juice for our children and me almost every day. It held up fairly well and we paid almost nothing for it at the time (around 30 bucks, I think), but it finally cratered a couple of weeks ago. We debated for a while whether or not to replace it with this Breville model or the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro. We finally decided on this one because it had so many five star ratings and because it is an appliance we use so often, thus we thought it made sense to get the best one we could find, even with its steeper price. While I can't compare it to the Hamilton Beach model, I can compare it to the Waring model, and it beats the Waring model hands down.
As soon as you unpack the Breville you know you have a top quality piece of equipment. It does an outstanding job at juice extraction (the pulp is dryer than what the Waring produced, and the Waring actually did pretty well) and the clean-up is far easier. When cleaning the Waring, you had pulp caked up within the machine itself and it was a pain to clean it out, partially becaused it had a higher moisture content but also simply because of all of the nooks and crannies in this catchment section of the juicer. Although this section detached, it was still difficult to clean nonetheless . The Breville puts the pulp in a separate container off to the side, and as others have mentioned, if you line it with a plastic bag there is nothing to it. The only "pain" is cleaing the filter device, which is going to be difficult with any juicer you buy. The brush they provide does make this a little easier, however.
Now for the biggest difference: the noise produced when the machine is turned on. With the Waring, you had to pause the television, stop talking, cover your ears, and hope the neighbors didn't phone the cops on you for disturbing the peace. The Breville is FAR quieter. Don't get me wrong, it is not "whisper quiet" or anything like that, but it probably makes one third of the noise the Waring did.
Is it worth the higher price as compared to the Waring or Hamilton Beach? Hard to say. Like I mentioned, we got the Waring for practically nothing and it was a good introductory machine for us for juicing, but SO LOUD!
I can't really find any flaws with the Breville at all (we have run it for about a week now). Considering, however, that it costs almost three times what you can get the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro for (I would chose this one over the Waring purely from my experience with it and from reading the reviews for the Hamilton), whether or not you want to go with this "ultra juicer" version boils down to sheer personal preference. How often you will run it and what variety of recipies you might want to put through it should probably be your driving factors, along side the price difference, of course. The main differences I found with the Breville as compared to the Hamilton were a slightly higher wattage (900 versus 800) and the variable speeds instead of only one, single speed. From our perspective, though, we have had no regrets in spending the extra cash for this top model.
EDIT 08/05/08: Just thought I would mention that since this review we bought the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro as a gift for my wife's mother, so we had a chance to directly compare it to the Breville. It did a good job, but it was louder and not nearly as solidly built as the Breville. After this comparision, we are even more satisfied with our decision to spend a bit extra and get this model. The varible speed on the Breville is something you will definitely miss should you go back to a model that does not have this feature. Hope this helps!

Housed in attractive stainless steel, this 900-watt juice extractor features a unique five-speed smart juicing system. Its powerful motor comes with a built-in electronic smart chip that increases power to the cutting disc under heavy loads. As a result, the filter extracts more juice and can make an 8-ounce glass of juice in just five seconds. Speeds range from 6500 rpm for softer fruits and leafy greens like cantaloupe or spinach, to 12500 rpm for maximum extraction from denser foods such as apples or beets. The unit's 3-inch circular feed tube makes it easy to process whole fruits and vegetables, without pre-cutting, slicing, or peeling, plus the feed tube sits uniquely positioned directly over the center of the cutting disc for better balance and consistent results. The juice extractor also provides a stainless-steel micromesh filter and cutters, engineering-grade polymers, a backlit control panel, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup. Accessories include a 1-liter juice jug and froth separator, a detachable spout for juicing directly in to a glass, and a cleaning brush. Bodum Pavina Double-Wall Thermo Glasses, Set of 2 Review

Bodum Pavina Double-Wall Thermo Glasses, Set of 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased these after seeing them on the Bodum.com website. I admit the cool factor lured me in.
The cups maintain the temperature of a cappuccino for as long as it takes me to get to the bottom of the cup. Additionally it is nice not to need coasters (especially if you have men or children in the home).
The 9 oz cup is less than 4 inches tall, making it fit perfectly under the fill spout of my super-automatic Saeco espresso machine (which I also love).
My husband and I have had 4 of these cups for more than 6 months and not one of them has broken. I mention this because the 9 oz cups seem to be much more sturdy than the 21 oz Pavina ice tea glasses. We broke one of the 21 oz cups with the first ice cube that went into the cup. We broke 2 others in the first two weeks.
Bottom line, I cannot recommend the 21 oz Pavina. However, the 9 oz Pavina cups are very tough, having survived 6 months of daily use with less than dainty owners. I think you will be very pleased with your purchase of the 9 oz Pavina cups.
UPDATE: JULY 18, 2006
All 4 of the 9 ounce Pavina mugs are still intact even with frequent use. I continue to recommend this product.

Stainless Steel Ice Scoop, 4 Ounce Review

Stainless Steel Ice Scoop, 4 Ounce
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although thee scoop is made from stainless steel, it wasn't clear from the photo that it's actually made from two pieces of sheet steel: the handle is one sheet, "cupped" to form the handle, and the bowl is another sheet. The two pieces are then tacked together at the handle joint. Although it's reasonably strong, and doesn't seem to flex, I'm looking for something a bit more substantial and presentable, with a solid handle cross-section, for use on my bar. I like the look of steel, to match my ice bucket, but it looks like I'll be moving to a solid cast aluminum scoop instead.

Breville BJE200XL 700-Watt Compact Juice Fountain Review

Breville BJE200XL 700-Watt Compact Juice Fountain
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I juice at least once a day as I primarily eat raw foods.
My Jack LaLane juicer finally wore out after 2.5 years of daily use. I was tempted to buy another - but I liked the way everything including the pulp catcher is all in one unit. So glad I got the Breville.
This thing is POWERFUL, especially compared to "Jack LaLanne". It is so powerful I usually don't even use the pusher except to cover the top so your ceiling doesn't get covered with stuff. Other reviewers have mentioned that tendency. What wasn't mentioned is that the reason it does that is because the motor is so beefy that stuff will shoot straight up.
When juicing soft stuff I immediately cover the top with my hand.
The design of this thing is absolutely first rate. Even down to the plug, which has a moulded loop so that it is easy to unplug and plug in! No tool is required to remove the basket, as in most other juicers. Breville uses a combo of ingenious design and magnets to hold it in place!
Ease of use and fit and finish is perfect.
Clean up is really a 2 minute operation and I don't even own a dishwasher. It will stain eventually, as every juicer I have ever owned does. Carrot juice would make a great dye :-)
The pulp on this juicer is a bit wetter than the Jack LaLanne. The "Jack" had a much larger basket and a much slower rotation. I believe that may account for it. But it isn't much wetter - just very slightly.
This juicer makes much smaller pieces of pulp though - and my experience so far has been that it gets just as much juice from a pound of carrots.
Bottom line - I can't imagine anyone not loving this unit.
UPDATE 3/26/2011 This thing is still going strong 3.5 years later. Folks I buy carrots by the 25 pound bag so I am HARD on juicers. And not one part has needed replacement!

Enjoy an 8-ounce cup of juice in just five seconds thanks to the unique cyclonic system of this full-function juice fountain. Its 700-watt motor operates at 14,000 RPM for maximum extraction and fast results. The unit features a stabilizing dual knife assembly, which centers fruits or vegetable over the cutter and filter, minces them into minute particles, and forces them against the stainless-steel micro-mesh filter, all of which increases yield by 30 percent and produces results 10 times faster than other juice extractors. The filter and cutter system are so powerful that pineapple can be juiced with the rind on. Another thoughtful detail includes the machine's extra-large 3-inch centered feed tube that allows for juicing whole fruits and vegetables. Plus, the unit's easy-to-clean internal pulp container assembles in seconds and juices 1-1/2 quarts of apple juice before it needs to be emptied.
