New Foodsaver Gamesaver Deluxe Hands-Free Easy Lock Latch System Crushfree Instant Seal Review

New Foodsaver Gamesaver Deluxe Hands-Free Easy Lock Latch System Crushfree Instant Seal

We ran our 8 year old FoodSaver Pro II to the ground. In its last year it could no longer automatically seal anything but we kept using it by manually pressing the seal button when we determined that enough air had been removed from the bag. After purchasing a six-roll box of sealer bags, it gave up altogether and was no longer able to seal bags. I researched various vacuum sealers at different prices, including the FoodSaver brand, and I repeatedly read how the quality of FoodSaver sealers had gone down since I purchased my first one. After weeks of reading various reviews and comparing costs, I decided to go with the FoodSaver GameSaver Deluxe. Though I was apprehensive that I might be purchasing a product that may not last, I decided that the price point made for a good enough investment. Plus, I was getting really frustrated with not having a vacuum sealer. I used it a lot more than I realized - at least once a day and when we purchased bulk meats, we make up at least 10 packages at a time and when cutting our own steaks, we make at least 15 at a time.
We've had no issues with this product when sealing up bags of bacon, hot dogs, and ground beef; resealing cereal and potato chip bags; sealing documents to make them waterproof; and making ice packs.
Thus far I am very happy with the quality of the GameSaver Deluxe. When I compare it to our old one, I find there are serveral improvements: the lock latch system, the vacuum is much quieter and faster, the cannister port works EVERYTIME, the bag cutter location, and the increased width of the seal. The latter is very important to me as on the old sealer I sometimes had to seal a bag twice to be sure it was really sealed.
If you are replacing an old FoodSaver vacuum sealer, or purchasing your first one, I would recommend this model. It is easy to use and does all that I've asked it to. It may not last eight years like the old one, but if it lasts three years I'll be very happy.

PIMSS Portable Ice Maker Review

PIMSS Portable Ice Maker

Small unit, fits nicely on the counter top. Makes ice kind of slow but it gets the job done. Small capacity of ice but it was enough for what I wanted. The problem is, with only light use the unit failed completely after only 2 weeks. The unit stopped making ice and got super hot to the touch on its metal case. I unplugged it and let it sit overnight. The next day I plugged it in again and had the same result. It had plenty of fresh water to work with so that was not the problem. I am trying to get a return number for it. Dont waste your time with this unit. It is nice but does not work.

Krups 654-75 WaffleChef 4-Slice Belgian Waffle Maker Review

Krups 654-75 WaffleChef 4-Slice Belgian Waffle Maker

Finally a great Belgian Waffle Maker! We had tried so many waffle makers in search of one that would make the "Diner" waffles that my kids love. "Too light", "Too Dark", "Not Crispy", "Too thick", "Too thin", were the complaints until we found this Krups Belgian Waffle Maker. The waffles come out nice and thick, but are light and crispy and only take about four minutes to cook. It does take some time to clean it after we're all done, but it's worth it! Excellent product.

This sleek, chrome-finished Krups Belgian waffle maker makes four delicious, deep-pocket Belgian waffles in just four minutes--and the nonstick-coated plates make cleanup easy. A "ready" light indicates when the machine is preheated and set for baking. When your waffle maker first arrives, just wipe the plates clean with a damp sponge, grease them lightly with butter, margarine, or cooking spray, and heat. After seasoning, you can make several batches of waffles without any sticking. The machine stands upright for easier storage.

I have used these "E.G.G. Ethylene Gas Guardian" thingys for some time. Does Magic Exist..I guess so. Whatever magic goose laid these things has something going. Simply putting one of these in the "crisper drawer" magically makes fruits and veggies stay fresh. How? Who cares?
877myjuicer shipped FAST, packaged right, and when I had a question on how to best use these they actually answered the phone! A HUMAN! (would not reveal where they keep the magic goose).
Good product, good service, nice people....and Magic!

Krups GVS142 1-1/2-Quart Automatic Ice-Cream Maker Review

Krups GVS142 1-1/2-Quart Automatic Ice-Cream Maker

This is the first ice cream maker I've ever owned or used. It works great and the resulting ice cream has turned out fabulous.
The bowl freezes well and I've never had a problem with the ice cream never getting cold enough. The motor is very quiet so you can run the machine during dinner or when you have company. Clean up is a snap. There are no weird parts or super delicate pieces to worry about.
I've made ice cream several times. I've enjoyed recipes in the Williams Sonoma ice cream book, "How to Cook Everything" by Bittman and Gourmet's cookbook. One note: I have had to toss out a few attempts at making custard-style ice cream using eggs. I just needed to get the hang of it. I'm glad I hung in there until I got the recipe right because it's worth the effort!

Harold Imports Industrial Revolution Ice Cream Ball Review

Harold Imports Industrial Revolution Ice Cream Ball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My son received this as a gift. We got to use it one time. It was fun, and we really enjoyed playing while we made ice cream, but it's impossible to take apart. After the ice cream froze the lid practically melded to the ball, so we couldn't dump the salt and ice part. I waited for it all to melt thinking perhaps the cold made it expand or constrict or something...and even when filled with room temperature salt water I still cannot get the lid off. I took out all the screws holding it together to try to take it apart to dump the water, and I still cannot pry the two halves of the ball apart to dump it. I saw a used ice cream ball in goodwill last week, apparently they had the same problem, though they managed to pry the ball apart, the rubber seal that held the pieces together was torn in several places. This is kinda expensive for a one time use novelty.

Simac MX700 PastaMatic Pasta Maker Review

Simac MX700 PastaMatic Pasta Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having read all of the reviews of the machine, it strikes me that people who have had trouble are probably not used to making things that require a level of attention. Making pasta is not like using a breadmaker. You can't just put all of the ingredients in the machine and walk away. Having used a CTC Pasta Express for years and being generally satisfied with it, I wasn't in the market for a machine as expensive as the Simac. But as an earlier reviewed observed, a large mail order company was selling it for 119 dollars including shipping. I decided to give it a try.
The PastaMatic 700MX operates differently than most models. For one thing, you have to weigh your flour and carefully measure the egg mixture(I use Egg Beaters). It takes longer to knead than my CTC too.
BUT...it makes the best pasta I have ever tried. The strands are much thinner than the CTC and a short dip in boiling water produces a superior pasta. I have purchased additional dies from Lello and look forward to trying them. The complaint about not being able to use 100% semolina is a recognition that that flour alone is just too dense and coarse for an extruder. No electric machine recommends using 100% semolina. But you can use a mixture of semolina and durum flour, which is a finer grind of semolina.
As for the cleanup, I was expecting all kinds of problems but it really wasn't any more difficult than any other appliance. Let it sit for an hour or so and the remaining dough will harden and be much easier to remove.
In short, I really like this machine! It takes time to make it work but that is time well spent.

Hamilton Beach 48464 Brewstation Summit 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Hamilton Beach 48464 Brewstation Summit 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased to replace our Brewstation Deluxe, which we absolutely loved! The only reason we did not purchase another one exactly like our old one is because of the leaking problem. About 1x/year we would need to replace the 'carafe' portion of the coffeemaker. The Summit was the 3rd replacement model we tried. It is the only other model that has all of the features that the Deluxe had (programmable auto shut-off & timer, brewing cycle selection). I agree with the previous post that it is a bit more awkward to fill. But, the biggest problem I have with it is the coffee basket. It has about 50 holes in the bottom for the water/coffee to flow out of the basket. The result is a very weak-tasting coffee because it flows through so quickly. I can't understand why this model is made like this when other models have only one hole! There is no way to even use enough coffee to get a strong flavor, even when putting it on 'Bold' setting, which slows down the brewing cycle. I figured out how to solve this problem by purchasing a permanent filter basket to use inside the other basket, plus using a paper filter. This adds to the awkwardness of the whole process, but we are so hooked on this style of machine that are willing to put up with it. It is also messier than the Deluxe because of all of the condensation inside. When you lift the lid water runs down (but mostly back into the carafe), and when you take out the basket there is condensation all over it and it drips trying to get it to the trash or sink. I also just noticed one of the buttons to set the time is sticking. Well, maybe I should go back to the Deluxe...

Uniquely designed without a coffee pot, this 12-cup coffeemaker features, instead, an insulated tank that keeps coffee hot and fresh inside. To serve, simply depress the non-slip dispensing bar with any favorite mug for one-handed dispensing--no carafe means no pouring, no spills, and no hotplate that can sometimes scorch coffee or make it bitter. The appliance also provides a user-friendly push-button control panel. Choose from several brewing options including bold, regular, iced coffee, or small batch (1 to 4 cups). Even more, the unit's programmable clock and timer allow for brewing "wake-up" coffee, while its keep-warm mode can be programmed to automatically shut off immediately after brewing (for iced coffee) or in one, two, three, or four hours as desired. Other highlights include a large digital display with blue backlighting, a removable water tank for filling at the sink, a water-level indicator on both sides, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup. Housed in sleek black plastic with stainless-steel accents, the coffeemaker measures approximately 12 by 9 by 17 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Oster BLSTPB-WBL My Blend 250-Watt Blender Review

Oster BLSTPB-WBL My Blend 250-Watt Blender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love my Oster personal blender!!! I have had the Magic Bullet for a few years and my mom thought the new Oster would be just like that so she thought it was pointless to buy. I ignored her and got it anyways and we love it! The Magic Bullet makes personal size smoothies, but it is far more expensive (although it does other things, too) and it's cups are just that--cups. They have no lid so you really can't take your smoothie with you unless you put it in another bottle. This is why I got the oster. You just blend, put the lid on, and go! It's great for drinking on the way to school or work and it is so fast to make! The longest part of the process is peeling any fruit you want to put in it, but if you use frozen fruit or fruit that does not need to be peeled, or you aren't making a fruit smoothie, it is quite fast! It can make frozen coffee drinks, smoothies, milkshakes, etc. IT is fantastic! The only thing I need now is for someone to sell extra bottles for it. Right now we only have one so only one person can have a smoothie. Generally I am the only one who drinks them daily, but sometimes my mom or sister will want one, too. If anyone knows where you can get more bottles, let me know!

When they say small ice tray, they mean SMALL ice tray. Basicaly this is a pencil sharpener with a tiny ice tray. You can save time by getting a cup of ice from McDonalds and biting the ice cubes in half...and then they may still be to big! The three ice cubes shaved make about one spoonfull of shaved ice. But what the heck, its worth the price just to show friends and laugh about.

I bought this for my kids (5 and 3 years old.) It was a little hard at first, and I think it is too hard for them to do. (You have to push down pretty hard on Mr. Snowman to get the ice to shave.) But after making my first cup, the second was easier. It's fun for summer. I can make the "snow" and they can pour it into cups and add the flavor.
I got it for [...] on sale in another store, and it's definitely worth that price.

Tupperware Ice Tups Popsicle Maker Set Review

Tupperware Ice Tups Popsicle Maker Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My mother bought these as a gift for my 2-year-old. I agree with what one of the other reviewers mentioned, the lids do NOT fit. I tried setting them up without liquid inside, and neither my husband nor I could get ANY of the lids to fit any of the molds. It is a terrible design. They do function well enough with the lid simply resting on the mold, however. Another problem I have is the molds fit very loosely in the base, so getting a full tray from the countertop to the freezer shelf is about as precarious as tightrope walking.I have made more than one mess just by tilting a little too far as I tried to lift them in.
I do like that the plastic is flexible. In the past, we've had problems with rigid plastic sticks snapping off and breaking after a few uses. The flexibility makes it durable. I do like the size as well - not too large for my toddler, but still enough to be a substantial treat. I also like the fact that each mold is separate, which makes life a little easier if you want to rearrange them around the freezer once they've set.
The price is outrageous. I'm sad my mother spent this much on a product that is definitely not superior quality. I think we're paying for the Tupperware brand name, and not workmanship or design. I would be more forgiving of its flaws if it were less expensive.

Vitamix CIA Professional Series Variable-Speed Countertop Blender with 2+ HP Motor and 64-Ounce Jar Review

Vitamix CIA Professional Series Variable-Speed Countertop Blender with 2+ HP Motor and 64-Ounce Jar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had my platinum Vita-Mix 1363 CIA (Culinary Institute of America) model blender for just over a month. So far, I am loving it! I have definitely increased my consumption of fruits and vegetables since getting it. I start most mornings off with a smoothie now. I throw in whatever fruit is in season (I love berries, but I've used peaches, nectarines, plums, grapes, apples, bananas and various frozen fruits), a scoop or two of protein powder, milk or water, a couple handfuls of fresh spinach, a couple handfuls of ice and sweetener if needed. Surprisingly, the spinach doesn't noticeably change the flavor, but it does boost the nutritional content of the smoothie. In less than 10 minutes I can have my smoothie made, poured into a "to go" cup and have the machine all clean (just add warm water and a couple drops of dish soap- turn it on for 30 seconds, then empty and rinse the container). The smoothies always turn out 100% smooth- berry seeds, apple seeds, ice and other hard bits are totally pulverized and drinkable. I've made great low-cal salad dressings using fresh herbs, garlic, low fat cottage cheese, a splash of milk and salt (if you prefer, you could use Ranch dressing mix with cottage cheese and milk). I made a very satisfying tomato soup with home grown tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, onion and salt. I've made great blended piña coladas, too! I'm having a lot of fun experimenting with different recipes. Because the Vita-Mix processes foods quickly, I'm actually finding that I'm making healthier eating choices. It's faster for me to put together a salad with pre-washed greens, veggies and homemade dressing than it is to go to the nearest fast food restaurant... and in the end, it's more satisfying and a LOT healthier. Yes, this is an expensive machine, but I think it will pay for itself within the first two years by reducing my spending on going out to eat.
This is a heavy-duty machine. It is loud when it's in use, but generally you won't need to run the machine for more than a couple minutes at a time. This is definitely a professional quality machine and will yield professional quality results. A regular home blender cannot compare!
The Vita-Mix 1363 CIA model and the Vita-Mix 5200 model are essentially the same machine. The CIA model has some different color choices and comes with a HUGE recipe book called "Create", a smaller "recipes and techniques" booklet and an hour long cooking class DVD. The 5200 model includes a different booklet and DVD. Both have the same 7-year warranty. If the color of the machine and the recipe book don't matter to you, save yourself some $$$ and go for the 5200 model instead.
