I have had this snow cone make for a year and I had to post a review after seeing the negative ones. This thing has made at least 200 snow cones over the past year and still works like it is brand new. We use it at all parties and even make some "adult" frozen drinks with it - for $30 i paid - I more than got my moneys worth - I'm gonna go make one right now!

Dairy Queen Blizzard Maker Review

Dairy Queen Blizzard Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My eight-year-old son received the Blizzard Maker for a gift. He was ready to jump right in and start making blizzards but we had to get thru set up first and then go to the store for half-and-half.
The DQ Blizzard Maker is simply a manual ice cream maker. Fill the basin with ice, water, and salt. Mix 3/4 cup half-and-half to the powder packet (which is sugar and flavoring), pour into the middle tank in the basin, then turn the crank for 10 minutes. My son and I took turns (5 minutes each) and after 1 minute, he was asking if he was done yet.
There's a chute at the bottom of the ice cream tank to "push" out the ice cream so it looks like it does in the store. Using the chute requires removing the paddle attachment and adding a plunger attachment. We accidentally froze our ice cream too hard, which made the plunger attachment useless when we got close to the bottom.
Despite the name "blizzard," there is no way to mix the toppings (generic pop-rocks are included) into the ice cream using the machine. You're told in the directions to just pour the toppings on top.
The ice cream serving cups are small--about 1/2 the size of a tennis ball. You end up with enough ice cream for 2 of these servings. The ice cream is pretty tasty.
We had quite a bit of grinding as the gears slipped when we first started cranking the ice cream. Once we got the right tempo (not too fast, but fast enough to keep the cream moving), the grinding stopped.
Honestly? It's probably better to just get a manual ice cream maker...

The gear box on this electric drive has no bearings! After about 25 uses the final drive gear will be ground off to the point where the gears no longer mesh. There is no repairing the Chinese made drive as no parts are available. If the one year warranty is up you get to buy a $96 unit that will fail in the same manner. If you open up the gear box to lubricate it your warranty is void and lubrication will not solve the problem anyway, there are no bearings. The motor is fine but the gear box does not deserve the White Mountain name.

Ninja Master Prep Professional Blender, Chopper and Ice Crusher: More Powerful & 2X Faster- Recipe Book Included Review

Ninja Master Prep Professional Blender, Chopper and Ice Crusher: More Powerful and 2X Faster- Recipe Book Included
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I received this as a Christmas gift, and so far, I love it. I currently own a Krups blender, which was only about $30, and I was preparing to buy something like a Viking Blender - something that has a much more powerful motor system, for around $150, when my parents got me this. The great thing about it is that it's not necessarily a blender. I mean, it is by definition, but there's a couple key differences. Blenders have an inherent flaw of only blending what's at the bottom, especially when it's something thick like a shake. I always ended up with big chunks of ice cubes in my shakes even after 3 minutes of blending. The ice just never reached the bottom. Not a problem with this system. Even if the blender carafe didn't have 3 sets of blades, it already works better than a blender because the blades aren't embedded in the bottom of the carafe. Which allows me to point out another awesome thing - don't you hate trying to scoop out your drink from the recessed blade area of a blender? And sometimes it just never gets clean? Or it leaks if you don't screw it on tight enough, or, God forbid (this happened to me once) the whole carafe unscrews itself while it's blending and crap flies everywhere? I love the design of the Ninja system if for nothing else than just to avoid all of that!
I haven't used this system for too many things yet, but let me tell you one thing it excels at - chopping ice. And I don't mean those dinky ice cubes that you get in the plastic trays. If you know anything about silicone ice molds, it makes the cubes huge and square. I looked at the ice cubes, and then at the Ninja and thought "let's give this a whirl". Boy was I surprised. Not only did it pulverize the cubes, but it did so in less than 30 seconds. Unlike my Krups blender, which would get hot and almost smoke if left on too long to try and pulverize the ice cubs, the Ninja motor didn't even get warm.
Now, onto the cons, which really aren't that bad. The whole system itself does take up a lot of space. I honestly don't think I need 3 carafes with 3 separate sets of blades and 3 lids. I have used the chopper, and it's definitely nice, but I don't know if I'll ever use the middle one. Maybe if I needed to chop something big like carrots or celery or something, I don't know. Another con is the obvious inability to allow it to sit there and blend something because you have to hold down the button for the motor. Now, this might not be so bad because it is extremely powerful, the blades are VERY sharp, and it doesn't take long to pulverize anything. But, it would be nice to be able to set it, and walk away for 30 seconds to do something else, even if it's nothing more than preparing to put more ice cubes in, (which, is another flaw - you have to remove the motor and the lid before adding any solids). But, I think the flaws in the system, the way it's designed, allows the user to avoid dealing with the problems a normal blender has, and that's worth it to me.

My husband loves his new Margarator Margarita Machine. We all enjoyed testing it. The drinks were delicious. It makes a large batch and keeps them icy fresh. One of my friends commented "Isn't that just a glorified blender?" I could explain that it not only made a larger batch, the spigot made it very handy to serve, and it was insulated so it kept the drinks cold and icy. We have enjoyed several different kinds of drinks. It did take trial and error to figure out that if it had sat for a while after mixing, we needed to turn it back on and let it run before serving ourselves for the perfect drink.

I bought this as a gift for my Wife... actually, I gave her the promise of making frozen drinks such as Rum Runners and Orange Julius knock-offs. So I actually get to operate the machine and she benefits from my love of gadgetry!
I think it works better if you CRUSH THE ICE BEFORE ADDING LIQUID. This is my opinion, but since it did NOT come with an Owners Manual, I'm not sure if this is correct (as the Engineer that designed it).
Long story short, IT WORKS, QUICKLY!
(OK so it's loud... but after the second glass, you can't tell anyway.)
P.S. If anyone from Nostalgia Electrics reads this, please make the Owners Manual available to download on your website. Thank you!!!

Secura Ice Cream Maker with Self-Refrigerating Compressor Review

Secura Ice Cream Maker with Self-Refrigerating Compressor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was very excited when I received my Secura Ice Cream Maker. All I could think about were my childhood days of waiting on my dad to finish hand turning the churn so we could all enjoy fresh homemade ice cream. Thankfully, the days of the manual churn are long gone because I would never have the patience to sit and turn that churn over and over again! However, I do love the taste of homemade ice cream, and it is a taste that I want my children to be able to enjoy too. That is why I decided to purchase an ice cream maker. I liked that the Secura maker has a removable bowl that preps itself. That way, I did not have to worry about remembering to freeze the bowl in advance, and I could make ice cream whenever I wanted.
It was not until I actually set up and started to operate the ice cream maker that I found my favorite features of it though. The Secura Ice Cream Maker has a number of safety features that make me much more comfortable using it. The machine has to run for more than half an hour. As I mentioned, I have kids. They are both quite small, and although they know to be careful around kitchen appliances, I know there is always a chance an inquisitive child will want to check on the ice cream when I am not in the room.
Thankfully, the Secura Ice Cream Maker includes a safety feature that will make it not run if the lid is not locked into place. I am completely thrilled with this feature because it means I do not have to worry about injury to my children should their curiosity get the best of them. Of course, I instruct them to stay away from the machine, but I have learned that with small children in the house, it is better to be safe than allow something to happen.
We love our ice cream maker at my house, and we make homemade ice cream almost every weekend. I like that the machine is quite versatile and I can try all different recipes. So far, our favorite is peach ice cream. Overall, I think that the Secura Ice Cream Maker is easy to operate, simple to set up, easy to keep clean, and totally safe thanks to its included security features.
Notes: I have read reviews about another brand having problem with the motor arm. As the ice cream thickens, the arm jumps up and unable to secure. I do not own this particular brand, so I have no comments. But this secura ice cream maker does not have this type of problem. The churning device is secured and perfectly centered. The motor stays in placed all the time and even after it stops churning because the ice cream is too thick to churn.

Pink Japanese Snow Cone Maker/ice Shaver Review

Pink Japanese Snow Cone Maker/ice Shaver
Average Reviews:

I was a little sceptical at first when I saw this item because I thought it would be made out of some really cheap material and easily breakable. After using it, I realize that my initial assumption was completely wrong.
This product works great! The ice it makes is delicate and snowy and it's so refreshing for a summer treat. The instructions are super easy to follow even though I don't understand Japanese. I think there's something about grinding your own ice that makes it taste so much better. It's really easy to grind up ice with this product and the lever goes around very smoothly. I also don't have to wash this. All I do is make sure it's properly dried off before storing it away. There's nothing complicated with the parts as there is only the body of the ice maker, the ice stabilizer on the inside, the top with the turning handle, and a cup to make ice with.
I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants to make a refreshing kakigori treat. It's fun for the family as my own family has really taken to making ichigo kakigori with this ice maker, especially on sweltering summer days.

Before I ordered this cotten candy machine maker, i did what any smart person should do. I checked the reviews!!! Surprisingly they were horrible! But i did my research and every nastalgia cotton candy maker seemed to have great reviews. So i thought to myself how could a brand new machine not work compaired to their older versions. I decided to give it a try, and im glad i did. I love cotten candy, just a little here an their and im happy. This machine is perfect for that matter. People have to understand your not getting a professional party/carnival cotton candy machine. This machine is ment for kids or cotton candy lovers! Judging from the reviews people did not read the directions well!.... I followed the directions above an beyond and it actually makes huges amounts of cotton candy if you do it right! First i put all the right peices together. That was simple. Then the directions say to turn on the machine and let it run for about 5 minutes. Its a brand new machine thats never been lite, so i gave it about 8 minutes. I could tell by looking at it that it was hot and ready to go. I turned off the machine and waited for the centerpiece to stop revolving. Poured in surger and pushed the sugar inwards to fit as much as possible without the sugar going over the sides ( hense why so many people complained about the sugar flying everywhere) With these types of fun house hold machines you have to think wisely. When i turned on the machine a light amont of sugar flew out (normal in any cotton candy machine) I waited for about 3-5 minutes and it slowly started forming a web ! i was so excited it worked! It made a good amount of contton candy. After the 3rd time i tried using the machine i was making great cotton candy!. The trick is the hotter the machine the more comes out and the faster! soooooo be patient. I guarentee half the bad reviews on here are from people who couldnt wait more then 3 minutes and were dissapointed when nothing happened. Read the directions! this is a great product and it was worht the money. Also use good quality sugar called floss sugar, specifically made for making cotton candy. do not use house hold sugar. Other than that read the directions and remember be patient it will work!

Magic Chef Portable Ice Maker White MCIM22TW Review

Magic Chef Portable Ice Maker White MCIM22TW
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are four of us, and we are all ice fanatics. The perfect glass of water for me is 1/2 water 1/2 ice. We used to argue because we had four to six ice cube trays taking up freezer space and we'd go to get ice and there would be one ice cube left. Our fridge did have an ice maker but we had a leak in the line, in the wall, that would required taking down the wall, fixing the leak, redrywalling, a real pain. Instead I got a portable ice maker.
This ice maker sits in the garage and makes ice all day long. We fill it probably once a day, use the middle size, and even in our new orleans heat it can keep up with our ice needs. No more opening the freezer and finding one cube left. We've had this over two years and had no problems. We wipe it down once a week for cleaning, it's got a drain on the side so it's really easy to clean.
The sensor works by temperature, when the basket is full of ice the ice sits on, or close, to the sensor and that's how it knows to stop making ice. Even in NOLA, on the coldest days, the sensor stopped the ice making process because the outer temp was too cold. I had to put my finger on it for a few seconds to warm it up and start the process again. Here in New Orleans it's not that big of deal, but if you lived in a colder climate (which is most of the rest of the US anyway) during the winter the garage might not be the best place for it, unless your garage is heated.

Total Chef FT02-G-2X Double Treat Ice cream Maker Review

Total Chef FT02-G-2X Double Treat Ice cream Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's inexpensive, doesn't have to be plugged in and doesn't need ice or salt--three things plenty of folks are looking for in an ice-cream maker!
The ice cream turns out pretty good (if you use a good recipe!), and it is just the right amount of ice cream for 2-4 people after dinner--just start it about 4 hours before! Also, since it's such a small amount of ice cream, you don't have to worry about hard-to-find additives that will make it still "scoopable" the next day--it will be eaten by then!
It cleans up easily, as long as you don't overfill the cups and rubberband the top on so it doesn't slip.
IT'S STILL CHEAP, THOUGH. I use mine a couple of times a week, and it definitely shows some wear (gears slip occaisionally). In my case, having this machine for a few months has convinced me that I WILL make ice cream often, and therefore a heavy-duty machine will be cost-effective for me.
But for people who will only use the machine a few times a month and are on a budget, this ice-cream maker is ideal!

Nostalgia Electrics PCM-805 Hard Candy/Sugar Free Cotton Candy Maker Review

Nostalgia Electrics PCM-805 Hard Candy/Sugar Free Cotton Candy Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My cotton candy maker arrived 6 days ago and I've used it every day since.
I heated it up for about 8 minutes before adding the sugar/candy, and the floss appeared about a minute after that. Since there were a lot of kids lined up to test the results, the two plastic cones that come with it weren't nearly enough to go around so we used thin 12" long wooden dowel rods which you can get at a craft store for about 5 cents each.
Before you make your first batch, you may want to watch some clips on making cotton candy on youtube. There is a certain technique to it but once you get the hang of it it's very easy.
We had it running, on and off, for about an hour as we tried different flavors and candies. The motor kept going strong the whole time. Make sure it's on a stable surface because the kids will want to lean in as far as they can to watch it.
It works with both hard candy and the sugar cotton candy mixes like Flossine. We found that it doesn't work as well with the hard candy that's typically pretty sticky, like Jolly Ranchers. The manufacturer also recommends not using round hard candy, like sour balls.
Clean up is a cinch. The metal spinner part and the plastic bowl come off, then you just soak them in hot water for a few minutes and the sugar dissolves.
Definitely the most fun appliance I've ever owned!

Disney Mickey Ice Shaver & Snow Cone Machine in Red Review

Disney Mickey Ice Shaver and Snow Cone Machine in Red
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Disney Ice Shaver Snow Cone machine is Cheap Cheap Cheap. I purchased for several reasons:
1. I liked the style.
2. I liked the color.
3. I wanted something cheap to try out before I spent big money on a 'real' snow cone machine
First impressions...
Opening the box, I found that everything was well packaged in formed Styrofoam. The accessories fit into their locations well and are essential to complete the look of 'Mickey'.
The fit and style of this unit are pretty good for a completely plastic appliance. Mickey is light and looks good on the counter with the red/white accents (including the bright red cord - nice touch). This machine is pretty small and compact and can be put in an area 9" x 7" on the counter. I put him in the corner of my island for easy reach since we have snow cones everyday.
Accessories:
1. Snow Cone Cup Holder
2. Two flavor/syrup containers
3. Snow cone shaping cup/snow cone holder
There are two things to consider with these accessories:
1. Will you use 'standard' sized cups for your snow cone treats or another type of cup?
2. Will you make/store the syrup for your dessert in the ear cups?
To answer the first question, you need to understand how large the cup holder actually is. I purchased reusable plastic snow cone cups with an integral straw from Walmart for use with mine. These 'barely' fit in the holder and tilt slightly away from the base because there isn't quite enough room to fit them onto the holder. This is a minor issue since the cup still catches most of the ice. If you want to have a full to overflowing snow cone like my wife, this may bother you.
The size of the snow cone cup/top shaper is also small. This is designed for a small snow cone cup (5 oz or so) and not anything larger. It has styled mickey ears on each side of the cup that interfere with compacting the ice into a nice dome that we all expect when having a snow cone. Also, as a snow cone cup, it is very small (it's use is further diminished by it's lack of fit into the snow cone holder).
To answer the second question, the two syrup/topping 'ears' that sit on perches on either side of the hopper are pointless in my opinion, but do an excellent job 'looking pretty'. these two cups are difficult to work with and quickly become so sticky they must be washed to remove residue from previous snow cones. Though these fit will with the style and location for use, they do not fit into the base very well. As a result, I have sent these things bouncing on the floor many MANY times during use of the machine. Operation:
The Mickey Ice Shaver is a journeyman snow cone maker. It is loud (100dB at the point of use - use ear plugs if you are going to make more than one), it makes shaved ice slowly (about one snow cone per 90 seconds - when it is working correctly), and must be completely full of ice for the machine to work well. This last statement is intended to be a guide since it will technically make ice with less ice in the hopper, but something about the design does not allow the ice to move quickly into position when there is less weight pushing it into position.
The metal blade that does the work on this device is replaceable and can be accessed by taking the hopper screw out. This blade does not wear quickly and should last the life of the machine for the average user. If you are a snow cone fanatic, be prepared to sharpen/replace the blade. It is not a typical razor blade, so think about using a knife sharpener to perform this task.
Speaking of the full hopper required for it to work well, after I have made my last snow cone of the session, I place an empty snow cone cup under the nozzle to catch the dripping water that inevitably comes when the ice inside the hopper melts. (I learned this the hard way after seeing water all over the counter). This is a minor thing and should be expected of a machine that has no basin. The water dripping out of the machine does not fall on the electric parts and shouldn't cause an issue with operation. If you do want to get the ice out of the machine, there is a removable cover to access the hopper. After removing the cover, it is possible to invert the machine and remove the ice or, by unscrewing the hopper retaining screw (plastic wing screw), the ice can be removed by hand. Since the machine is so light and portable, I usually pop the top and pour the ice out if I have time (I usually let it drain into a cup, since I am not sure when the next snow cone will be made and the ice in the hopper may be useful minutes after I think we are done).
After several snow cones...
If you have a large family, you will probably be making more than one snow cone per child per day. If this is something that you only bring out for parties, be prepared to buy another machine. After 4-5 snow cones in a row, the motor is HOT and the mechanism is at it's limit. Although I was unable to get it to overheat with 6 snow cones placed through it continuously (motor never shut off), I have had the machine over heat and stop on me after 3 cones fairly close together.
If you enjoy the style and are an occasional snow cone consumer who wants a cheap, stylish machine that doesn't take up much counter space, this may be the machine for you.
If you have a large group eating multiple snow cones everyday, or if you desire something for parties, spend a bit more money and step up to a machine with better performance.
Style: 5 out of 5 stars
Quality: 3 out of 5 stars
Price: 5 out of 5 stars
Value: 5 out of 5 stars
Overall: 4 out of 5 Stars (mainly because it is so cheap!)

Metrokane Retro Ice Crusher-Stainless Steel with Chrome Top
Average Reviews:

First and foremost, this ice crusher does a pretty good job. The top half of the ice crusher is heavy compared to the base so it can be knocked off balance. It does a good job crushing even large ice cubes from the traditional Rubbermaid ice trays. It does not grind the ice into snow but I didn't expect or want it to. One down side is that the finish of the ice reservoir (the bottom half) gets damaged if you put it in the dishwasher. You also can't load a large amount (more than a cup and a half I would think) of ice at a time.
