This has a simple design with a removable bowl so it's easy to clean.
Because the blade is under the bowl and the chute to the blade is curved, kids can use this with no danger of hurting themselves.
The dispersal of the ice is wide enough that I place a bowl under it to catch the shaved ice rather than trying to drop it directly into a snow cone cup.
I don't know that this would be practical for a crowd, but to make an occasional snow cone for 2 to 3 people it has been great.
I found a recipe online for flavored simple syrup that costs pennies per serving.
I haven't tried the bottle kind so I can't comment on it.
